Litigation: How Our Cars Got Safer

On April 15, 2011, the Washington Post published an op-ed by American Association for Justice President Gibson Vance entitled “How Our Cars Got Safer.” The op-ed is tied to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) report that traffic deaths have dropped to the lowest levels since 1949, even as people rack up more miles on the road. Cars are safer now because of personal injury litigation, which led to countless safety innovations. Read AAJ’s report on auto safety and litigation at: www.justice.org/autosafety.

““Maria is such an impressive professional and wonderful individual. She exceeded every single expectation inside and outside the courtroom. During my trial she was faced with a biased and disgruntled jury who had already decided against my case before it even started; but this never hindered Maria. She never gave up on me, even when the jury denied me any compensation. She pushed back and won a new trial, forcing the insurance company to finally offer me a favorable settlement. Her drive to do the best, her passion and dedication for her clients, her overall impressiveness is what sets her apart from everyone else. I appreciate Maria, and I am more grateful than she will ever know. She is one of a kind.” B. Morrison
