Women at Risk for Cancer after Power Morcellation Surgery

On April 17, 2014, the FDA issued a warning to doctors and women that laparoscopic robotic hysterectomies and fibroid removal surgeries done with a power morcellation device can cause the spread of aggressive uterine cancers. Today there are more than dozen power morcellation devices on the market, but the largest manufacturer of power morcellators - Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon 360 division - decided to voluntarily withdraw its device from the market until further medical guidelines are established.

“My daughter was injured during birth when a catheter punctured my womb. She suffered from a loss of blood, and several other mistakes were made before she was finally resuscitated. My mother, who is a nurse, suggested Judy Massong. With her as my attorney, I felt I was in the most experienced hands. With Judy's help, we settled twice, once with the hospital and again with the medical device manufacturer. Judy is as strong as a bulldog, and she always made it her goal to keep us informed and help us find the resolution we needed as a family. We have worked hard on my daughter’s recovery, and as challenging as it can be, she is an affectionate, loving, social, bright little girl.” Julie L.
